National Service Training Program
In October 2008, two components of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) were integrated in the University Community Development Program (UCDP) and placed under the management of the Office for Community Development (OCD) - presently UST-SIMBAHAYAN Community Development Office. The NSTP is a mandated curricular program for tertiary students. It seeks to promote the role of the youth in nation-building, and as such, it aims to encourage the youth to become civic leaders and volunteers who could be called upon by the nation in cases their services are needed. The two components that were integrated were the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Literacy Training Service (LTS).
The CWTS component or activities seeks to contribute to the general welfare and betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation, and morale of the citizenry. Along with the CWTS is the LTS, which is designed to train students to teach literacy and numeracy skills to schoolchildren, out-of-school youth, and other segments of society in need of their service.
